The Renaissance refers to a flow in measure in which Classical humanism was reborn. It is during this time period that the study of learning and philosophy were embraced, that the arts were encouraged and the scholars looked non just forward to where we were going, but embraced the past, the Greco papist times, to guide us in the right direction. There are many Classical Humanist that helped run the Italian Renaissance, but Ficino, Pico, and Alberti contributed to the Italian Renaissance and helped to give it substance. Their translations of Greco Roman classics gave knowledge to Western scholars that was thought lost. They challenged the traditional Church and commonly held beliefs. The belief that hard work brings monetary reward came from this opulent age.
Ficinos translation of Platos writings from the traditional Hellenic into Latin gave Western scholars their first chance to read the Greek philosopher since the fall of Rome. It was based on his translations and his generous benefactor Cosimo de Medici that the Platonic Academy was born.
