Richard Fords Optimists tells the story of Frank, the protagonist, who is learning to realize that the approximately important things in life can change abruptly without notice and without recovery. Frank is a boy of fifteen eld old whose father, Roy Brinson, feats for the Great Northern Railway. One solar day Roy comes home from work unexpectedly after he sees a man get caught under the train and hopelessly watches him die. His married woman comforts him while one of the guests that are over their digest scorns him for not trying harder to save the mans life. Roy is worsen and ends up killing the man with a hard achieve to the chest, changing his and his familys lives forever. Ford implies that taking action without idea results in consequences that impact your life in ways that are eternally irreversible. Roy takes action by hitting the man who is elicit him which, in turn, kills him. This results in five months of prison time and by the time he gets out, nothing is the same. He takes up inebriation and gambling, his son Frank moves out of the house and joins the Army, and he divorces his wife. The motive also demonstrates that events that occur in our life stick with us for years to come, especially when unresolved. It has been fifteen years since Frank has seen his grow when he have a bun in the ovens into her at a grocery store.
