Generally, love stories follow a specific pattern; the characters meet, they smoothen in love and they live happy ever after. Dagberto Gilb’s short story “Love in L.A.” by no means follows this specific pattern, however most real vitality love stories do not follow this pattern either. This descriptive passage proves that Jake had these thoughts and chose these specific features in hopes to impress women. We further understand the character of Jake once he rear-ends a woman’s car, his womanizing character truly shinning as he uses this opportunity to pick her up. The fact that that his first and for the first time concern is the status of his car’s paint traffic and that he then proceeds with his pick-up lines is a clear reflectivity of his “player” personality. This is displayed through the imagery used by Gilb in paragraph 5:
