Critics in the Past
The early appearances of music criticism began with Plato (classical Greek philosopher and mathematician) in the Laws in which he condemned the naturalistic imitations produced by the players of the aulos (ancient Greek wind instrument). In the fifteenth century, Johannes Tintoris (a composer and music theorist of the Renaissance), praised Renaissance composers such as Dufay, Dunstaple, and Binchois.
