Going in to representing this manga I was quite on the fence, I had heard many pros and cons rough it over the years. I have never picked up the manga myself payable to the ruse style. While I do enjoy aspects of it such as some of the character designs, it is overall too simple for myself. I found there to be really curt expand in the settings and many panels consisted of just the character and a white background. Despite this, the guns used by the girls were all draw in precise detail, making them true to life. Personally I found this decision to put so a great deal detail into very specific things to be intriguing, very much an aesthetical choice. Having the guns drawn with such detail and moe like main characters, this manga mat that it was very much geared towards an older male audience. Manga is a form of storytelling, although at the same time it is also an art form and I feel that only half of this dimension was filled.
With half of my interest disengaged I continued on to read Gunslinger Girl. Some aspects of the overall concept remind me of Eflen Leid, which is a manga I recommend to anyone who is able to withstand the gore aspect. At first I found the art style in Elfen Leid to be a bit off putting unless the plot and characters pulled me in so deeply I washed-up the series with a love for the art.
I love Elfen Leid and the barbarity of using young girls as weapons and I felt very much concerned for some of the characters. Gunsligner Girl left me not caring what happened to the girls either way, I felt there to be no connection with the characters and the plot was extremely lack luster. With the visuals not keeping me turning the pages and the plot to be disappointing I found it hard to keep turning the pages. It feels to me that so much more could have been done with the original concept.
