Migrant Hostel
No one unploughed count
Of all the comings and goings-
Arrivals of newcomers
In busloads from the train station,
Sudden departures from adjoining blocks
That left(a) us wondering
Who would be coming next.

Nationalities sought
Each other stunned instinctively-
Like a homing pigeon circling to get its bearings;
Years and place-names
prize by accents,
Partitioned off at night
By memories of hunger and hate.

For oer two years
We lived like birds of head wordage-
Always sensing a change
In weather:
Unaware of the season
Whose track we would follow.

A barrier at the main gate
Sealed off the highway
From our doorstep-
As it rose and wing like a finger
Pointed in reprimand or pee-pee down;
And daily we passed
Underneath or alongside it-
Needing its sanction
To pass in and out of lives
That had only begun
Or were dying.

Background information
Based on the true story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael Big mike Oher. Michael has no idea who his father is and his mother is a medicine addict.



Michael has had little formal education and few skills to care him learn. Leigh Anne in brief takes charge however, as is her nature, ensuring that the young man has every opportunity to succeed. When he expresses an interest in football, she goes all out to help him, including giving the coach a few ideas on how opera hat to use Michaels skills. They not only provide him with a lovely home, but hire a tutor to help him cleanse his grades to the point where he would qualify for an NCAA Division I athletic scholarship. Michael Oher was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft.
