McCreary County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of 2010, the population was 18,306. Its county piazza is Whitley City. The county is named after James B McCreary, who was a
Confederate struggle hero and governor of Kentucky 1875-1879. McCreary is the only county that doesnt
have a single incorporated city. Because of this, county regimen is the sole local government for
the entire county.

Cumberland Falls State Park, and the Big South Fork scenic Railway, which passes through former

McCreary County was formed on March 12, 1912. The present county boundaries are 427.7
square miles of land area. The bulk of the county was carved out of Wayne and Whitley Counties,
