Would You Approve Hydraulic Fracturing?
Introduction
With the worlds energy crisis on the rise, the United States government is in a bit of a predicament. Our country is sitting on a gold mine of a form of energy called indispensable gas, also known as shale gas. This form of fuel is estimated to be enough to sustain our planet for the next hundred years. The trouble with natural gas is that it is difficult to obtain. Buried deep at bottom the earth, 1 or 2 miles below the crust, this gas is confine in a layer of the earth called shale rock. The process to derive natural gas is also dangerous and possibly saturnine to our environment. The method to extract from these natural gas wells is complicated.
To start, an fossil oil company drills vertically to a certain depth and turns 90 degrees. The drill then continues until the trapped natural gas is reached. A mixture of water, sand, and chemicals, called fracking fluid is then pumped into the well at high pressure. This pressure creates fractures (in the form of channels) in the shale rock, through which the natural gas is extracted.
This process creates a substantial amount of desert water which is used to replace the natural gas in the va scum bagt wells (a full detailed explanation can be found at http://www.exploreshale.org.) The positive outcomes of hydraulic fracturing are tremendous but are being bogged batch by its ethical complications. Many people can be swayed one way or the other depending on how hydraulic fracturing is presented to them.
Theoretical Frame
The theory used throughout this paper is that with no prior knowledge, the average person can be persuaded to be for or against hydraulic fracturing, based on how the information is delivered to them. The mental picture is pretty simple. The media portrays mainly the negative sides of hydraulic fracturing (how it is dangerous for citizens and how it is injurious to the environment, etc.) and this leads to a...If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
