Professor Roesdahl is a specialiser in Medieval Archaeology at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, and a specific Professor in Viking Studies at the University of Nottingham. In her book, The Vikings, we learn a narrative of the geography, nature and culture of the Viking people, as well as a history of their expansion throughout Europe.
Rather than a mere chronological history, this book is a history of the Vikings scripted thematically. The Vikings give us insight on how the Viking Age stir Scandinavian literature, history and politics, and enhanced national pride and indistinguishability (297). Roesdahl seems to have taken a stance that the Vikings were, in reality, not the bloodthirsty barbarians that most history teaches us.
